weekend recap chicago birthday

why does this weekend seem like we had way more time… oh yea because we did. on a bit of a whim joe and i decided to take friday off and start celebrating his birthday a little early. we woke up and did chores before deciding to head out to chicago for a quick overnight get away.

we got to the chicago area around 11:30 am and did some shopping for joe. the man needed new pants, shoes, work clothes etc. the previous week we cleaned out his closet and threw away shirts he wore out on our college dates. i’m not kidding. there is a small pile of 5 t shirts that he wants to wear one more time to “say goodbye” before throwing them away. they are mostly belly shirts now. he’s pretty self conscious about that i told him maybe he had another growth spurt and just got taller instead of wider. i’m not one to talk right now either lol i seem to be getting nothing but wider.

anyway we shopped around and then went to a few stores that we do not have around here for baby albers. we went to land of nod, pottery barn kids etc. got some registry ideas. i think registering might be a bit more complicated than i originally planned. apparently there is a lot of stuff this pint size goldfish needs to thrive in this world. the only thing joe really wants is top notch baby monitors. weirdo.

we headed to to the downtown area around 4pm and got to our hotel and relaxed a bit. we stayed at the waldorf astoria chicago for the night. a bit of a splurge but we went there 7 years ago for his birthday and had such good memories of just hanging out and relaxing at the hotel. we went out for dinner at nico osteria in downtown and had an amazing dinner with bruschetta with brussel sprouts and i had a spring pea ravioli with ricotta that was to die for.

after that we headed to three dots and a dash for a drink (sidenote to all my non alcohol friends they can make almost all their drinks virgin). after that we hit up frycakes on our walk back to the hotel at night. it started pouring rain about 5 minutes before making it back but it was really funny because i was full and joe was a little buzzed.

saturday morning we walked to brunch at baptiste and bottle on the 20th floor of the conrad hotel. it was a beautiful view and a really good brunch (good coffee too!) we walked michigan ave. back to the hotel and hit up the crate and barrel outlet before heading home.

we got home around 6pm and decided to tackle the kitchen. what do you mean by that? oh let me tell you. we had the exterminator come and clean out all of the darn devil birds that took up residence in the range hood and vents. when he did that nest particles (and poo poo) were everywhere on the stove. it was disgusting. we took everything out of the kitchen, bleached, washed and steralized ( and threw things away) before putting the entire kitchen back together. sounds intense and it was but i get these random bursts of energy at weird times where it’s just time to tackle things.

we went and got an ice cream cone to celebrate our victory over the birds.

sunday we woke up early for easter and joe read a bit while i made the food for our parties that afternoon and night. we went to the 10am service before heading to his parents for easter lunch and birthday celebrations. after that we went to check on the store and get it ready for mondays restocks and then headed to my parents for dinner. we just had appetizers and snacks and hung out. oh and watched my nephew get his little bunny. it was so stinking adorable.

after that we headed home to do chores and called it a night. it was a great weekend (oh and absolutely beautiful outside!)
